Art Therapy: How does it work?

It's not about producing perfect artwork, but rather using art-making to process, express and communicate thoughts, feelings and experiences.

Benefits of Creative Expression :

  • Enhance flexible thinking and creativity

  • Alleviate stress, process emotions, and explore feelings

  • Clarify goals, values, and beliefs for self-discovery

  • Express yourself meaningfully, develop independence, and empower positive changes

What happens in a session?

Bring your notebook, sketchbook and drawing materials to our virtual session, and use them to illustrate or write your thoughts and feelings. You can choose to use drawing supplies, paint, writing, or a drawing app on an tablet. You don't have to create art during every session, or even at all if you don't want to.

Art Therapy sessions provide a space to manage emotions, explore coping tools and step outside of your comfort zone without judgment. Your artwork and writings can serve as a visual representation of your growth and progress. Our sessions are designed to help you leverage the power of creativity to improve your emotional well-being and achieve personal growth.

"Art is a way of recognizing oneself."
- Louise Bourgeois

  • We'll view your artwork together and discuss any thoughts, feelings, ideas, themes or content that arise during or after the process.

  • Art-making can be combined with other therapy techniques (i.e. cognitive behavioral, DBT, motivational interviewing, image rehearsal, EMDR, exposure response prevention)

By engaging in creativity, you'll gain a deeper understanding of yourself, and insights into your feelings and experiences. Reach out to schedule a free consultation.
